Community-engaged teaching makes an impact on Ohio State students and our community. In the last academic year, more than 80 courses in nearly 40 departments reached over 2,500 Ohio State students. Service-learning has been identified as a high-impact learning activity based on National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) findings that it promotes deep/integrative learning and personal development for students at all levels. It is an opportunity for experiential education that takes students out of the classroom and into communities, letting them work with partners to meet real community needs and learn how they can connect academics to active citizenship and career skills.
The Office of Service-Learning and Community-Engaged Teaching is Ohio State’s main administrative support unit that facilitates academic service-learning and community engagement on our campuses. The Office of Service-Learning Development Fund supports local, national, and international efforts aligned with Ohio State Office of Service-Learning and Community-Engaged Teaching projects. Your contribution will enable us to continue supporting faculty, staff, students, and community partners through our course grants program, campus workshops and events, and other efforts. Each year, the Office of Service-Learning and Community-Engaged Teaching provides meaningful grants to Ohio State faculty seeking to develop community-engaged courses. These courses provide an opportunity for Ohio State students to become involved in their communities, strengthen community bonds, and develop critical career skills while expanding their world views. We provide the foundation for faculty to develop meaningful courses that promote civic engagement in ways that cannot be achieved in a typical classroom.
