Ohio State’s Service-Learning a “Program to Look For”
In U.S. News and World Report’s America’s Best Colleges 2010, Ohio State’s service-learning programs were recognized as “outstanding examples of academic programs that are commonly linked to student success.” This is the second consecutive year that Ohio State ranked among the best colleges and universities in the nation for courses that closely link academic learning with community service. The Corporation for National and Community Service launched this summer service initiative in June in partnership with the White House. It will run through the new National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11. The project is intended to raise awareness of the need for community service and provide tools for promoting and sharing volunteer experiences. National Recognition for Ohio State’s Engagement
The Ohio State University has won recognition by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for both community outreach efforts and for community-engaged curriculum. The university is one of 68 public and 51 private institutions that received the “community-engaged” classification. Ohio State’s designation is in the category “Curricular Engagement and Outreach & Partnerships,” which identifies institutions with substantial commitments in both areas. The recognition for “curricular engagement,” is for teaching, learning, and scholarship focused on mutually beneficial collaborations with the community. Ohio State’s service-learning courses, which integrate community service into curricular activities, are a prime example of our curricular engagement. Read more -->
Ohio State Serves with Distinction 
For the third year in a row, Ohio State was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. In both 2007 and 2008, the university achieved the Honor Roll with Distinction. Read more -->
