2006
Student Award for Excellence in Community Service
Katina Woodruff, English. Having experienced homelessness and disability, Katina repaid the help she had received from community agencies by teaching literacy, GED, and computer classes for agency clients and encouraging her students to overcome obstacles and pursue their dreams.
Joseph A. Simonetti, Medicine, served at a hospice and an AIDS orphanage in Zambia, offering care and emotional support to people with few resources and limited access to medical care.
Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship
Hazel Morrow-Jones, Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture, director of the City & Regional Planning graduate internship programs, developed a service-learning course incorporating diverse people, locations, and perspectives.
Student Organization Award for Excellence in Community Service Programming
Ohio State University College of Pharmacy Academy of Student Pharmacists formed a partnership with the Central Ohio Diabetes Association and provided 400 diabetes screenings at community sites, developed an interactive diabetes presentation for 700 elementary and middle school students, and partnered with a middle school to present a recurring preventive health education program.
Community Award for Excellence in Community Partnership Building
Katie Clark, RN, Nurse Coordinator, Physicians Free Clinic, was an instrumental community partner in the development of a collaborative service-learning opportunity at the Physicians Free Clinic for Ohio State occupational and physical therapy students.
Turning Point Domestic Violence Shelter collaborated with a Department of Theatre MFA acting class in “Hidden Voices,” a production highlighting issues facing victims and abusers.

Student Award for Excellence in Community Service
Randal Scott Dudis, Zoology, volunteered weekly at the Interfaith Hospitality Network, a homeless shelter, and served as a site liaison and later president of the SERVICE Squad, a team of student leaders who coordinate student volunteers.
Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship
Susan R. Jones, College of Education, provided leadership for launching and sustaining the Service-Learning Initiative, served as co-convener of the Service-Learning Scholars Roundtable, and designed an innovative service-learning curriculum.
Student Organization Award for Excellence in Community Service Programming
Ohio State University College of Pharmacy Academy of Student Pharmacists, a professional student organization that has conducted an annual chili cook-off that raised $39,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association over 8 years.

Student Award for Excellence in Community Service
Matthew Freeman (Nursing) volunteered at and served on the board of La Clinica Latina, an OSU-run clinic for Spanish-speaking patients, and served at the Physicians Free Clinic.
Derek D. Holden (Accounting) served as vice president and president of Adopt-a-School and expanded its volunteer tutoring programs.
Timothy J. Paridon (Business) deepened his perspective on the causes and consequences of poverty through service at the Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship
Franklin R. Banks, College of Medicine and Public Health, served as Academic Program Director of the college's Community Project., which serves mroe than 45 community partners each year with over 3,000 hours of medical student time devoted to community service; and instituted an annual Community Health Agency Fair to match agencies with student volunteers.
Student Organization Award for Excellence in Community Service Programming
Ohio State University Department of Theatre School Tour. Since 1999 theatre students have planned and managed productions of plays performed in area schools and on campus for K-12 students.
Community Award for Excellence in Community Partnership Building
YWCA Interfaith Hospitality Network partnered with Ed P&L 271 Leadership in Community Service, an undergraduate service-learning class, providing a supportive yet challenging environment for students to learn about social issues such as homelessness and look at leadership through a community service lens.

Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship
Joseph B. Stulberg, Moritz College of Law, facilitated service-learning initiatives for law students through three targeted initiatives as part of an overriding vision of what law-trained individuals can contribute to their community’s quality of life.
Community Award for Excellence in Community Partnership Building
Bank One Academy selected and trained Fisher College of Business students to be mentors for high school students interested in developing career and life skills.
