Call for Nominations
The annual awards recognize exemplary community service in the following categories: students, faculty, staff, student organizations, community partners. They are presented at the Celebration of Excellence in Community Service and Scholarship reception in the spring. Students nominate themselves. Anyone may nominate in the other categories. The call for nominations is issued in Winter Quarter.
Award Categories
Student Award for Excellence in Community Service
Presented to recognize an exceptional record of service to the community. Selection of the award recipients is based on judging of an essay written by the student describing his/her service record and experience and the effects on academic and personal development, contribution to or impact on community, civic development, career plans, and world view.
Faculty Award for Excellence in Community-Based Scholarship
Presented to a faculty member who demonstrates outstanding achievement in connecting learning with community service, delivering useful service to a community partner, developing leadership and citizenship skills among students, engaging in exemplary community-based research, and/or fostering appreciation for diversity. Nominations come from students, faculty, staff, and community organizations.
Staff Award for Excellence in Community Service Engagement
Presented to a staff member at The Ohio State University who demonstrates superior commitment to developing, coordinating, and/or sustaining projects, activities, or courses involving Ohio State University students that enhance student learning and make a positive difference in the community. Nominations come from students, faculty, staff, and community organizations.
Excellence in Community Partnership Building Award
Presented to a community agency/group/institution that demonstrates excellence in collaborative work with university students and faculty, resulting in a partnership that produces positive differences in the community and enhances student learning. Nominations come from students, faculty, staff, and community organizations.
Student Organization Award for Excellence in Community Service Programming
Presented to a student organization that has successfully partnered with a community agency to sponsor an outstanding community service program. Outstanding programs will be student planned and well organized, involve active participation from a community agency, and demonstrate a measurable impact on the community served. Programs may be one-time events or ongoing projects. Students, faculty, staff, and community organizations may submit nominations.
Excellence in Volunteer Community Service
Awards presented to recognize students who contributed at least 100 hours of service and recorded the service activity on the Community Connection database (http://communityconnection.osu.edu). No individual application is required.
Charles J. Ping Student Community Service Award
This award is designed to recognize and honor undergraduate students for outstanding leadership and contribution to community service OR service-learning on their campus and within their community.
